Diamondbacks vs. Rockies
Sep 19th
Are the Rockies a proper environment for Diamondbacks? Whatever.
I rode the lite rail into downtown Phoenix to Chase Field. Though going Northward the rail splits up around downtown so I had to walk a city block to the stadium it wasn’t bad. There was a crowd of people going to the game so I wasn’t alone. After a quick search of my little purse I was politely directed to the Diamond Club where are group was meeting up.
Is there any concrete left anywhere in the world? This stadium is ALL concrete. I met up with my friends and promptly found a bar stool overlooking the field. It was my first ever real MLB game so I figured I should at least watch part of the game. Hearing the $12 beer was crappy (and the food in that club even worse) I opted for water and visiting.
Yup, it was a baseball game. If I’m ever forced to watch a sport I prefer baseball, but that’s about as much of a fan I am. Right after I got there the Rockies got a home run with bases loaded, so the score was at 4-4. And stayed there until I left. The most interesting thing about the whole thing was the acoustics. The club was directly across center field and about 3 stories up from the field and the whole stadium was I would say 75% full of yelling, talking, moving fans. Yet I could hear the ball hit the catcher’s mitt almost every time. Amazing. It must be really loud down on the field. I’d figured you could hear the ring of the bat when someone hit, and you could but I didn’t think about the thump of the pitch hitting the mitt. Cool.
By the 7th (tied) inning some of us had to leave to ride the rail back to Tempe for the Rocky Horror thing. I think I’d like to go again, and maybe sit in the regular stands and watch a game. Once.

Well, moving is done. Old apartment is empty and as clean as I can get it, but fully expect them to charge me to replace the carpet. It’s NASTY. After two years with a toddler, a dog and too many sloppy adults there’s just no way that’s getting clean. And when I moved in I paid a non-refundable re-painting deposit so I’ve already paid them to repaint, right?
The new place? Smaller, which is fine. I’m just sweating where I’m going to stick stuff. There’s not a lot of storage for holiday decorations (I dumped our Christmas tree) and extra hardware/home improvement/craft stuff I’ve gathered over the years. I have a habit of buying the necessary parts for a project and then never actually DOING it.
And speaking of sweating, the A/C had been running since the first moment we got here Saturday morning but it hadn’t cooled off. All through the move and through the night it maintained at probably 85° . You know, cool enough so you’re not dying in the 114° heat, but not cool enough to actually DO anything like sleep. I headed over to the office and within the hour they’d fixed it and as of sometime in the middle of the night it got downright cold in here.
I’ve got a cough that at first I attributed to dust from the packing and moving but now I think it’s officially a cold. Nyquiled last night so I feel a bit better this morning.
Max and Kela are journeying back to Iraq right now for a couple of months then they’re back in Hawaii. I’ll post pictures as soon as I find my cords in this mess.
This new apartment doesn’t have overhead lights in the bedrooms. Desk lamps really don’t put out enough light to unpack at night. We’re moving slow. And someone ripped the coax hookup right out of the back of Ginnie’s TV, which we’d planned to put in the living room. Roger has a better one for their bedroom and I gave mine to Casey, but had to get it back last night after spending a couple hours trying to get this broken TV to work some other way.
Small problems in the scheme of things. But I now live back in Tempe! Yay!

Ginnie gets a call this morning for Casey. Tempe detective wants to show him a photo lineup of suspects regarding Ed’s stabbing. No, none of the pictures was the guy but at least we know it’s still being worked on. Once Ed actually died the case got bumped up to murder. How many murders are there IN Tempe anyway?
So Casey asks the detective (as he’s taking my number because everyone else changes numbers so often) how he got Ginnie’s number to begin with. “It’s what I do.”
_____
Also, Ginnie called her father about something or other and he tells her, “Oh by the way, I’m getting married on Monday.”
Have a nice life dude. Someday you’ll figure out YOU have to make an effort to keep in contact with your children. It’s not their responsibility, it’s yours.

I’ve got a busy couple of months coming up. The first 10 days in July I’ll be in Minnesota and the first ten days of August I’ll be packing and moving to Tempe. I finally settled on a complex on Mill between Southern and the 60. The complex and certain apartments have recently been renovated so it shouldn’t be too crappy. The model was decent. Plus water and electricity are included in the rent and it’s still less than the rent I’m paying here. They have three pools, an Internet Cafe and a brand new exercise room on the property. I’ll have extra money soon! I plan on being a regular at IKEA.
I’ll invite you all over once I get settled it.
