TV shows that pissed me off – lately
May 21st
Brothers and Sisters on ABC. I actually refused to watch it last night. The previews showed two specific things that made me angry. The first one being that the family is completely falling apart emotionally because the youngest son is being sent to Iraq. I think I’ve mentioned this before. Like just being sent there is a death sentence. Absolute panic. Thanks ABC for reassuring all those people out there with family members deployed to places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Let’s just write all those soldiers off because death is a sure bet. And the poor kid already suffers a drug addiction because he’s been a consistent underachiever in a family full of overachievers. So will they kill the character off as expected, or will he live through his deployment and really let his family down? Fucking TV.
(Personal note: Max called and he’ll be in Iraq at least through October 8th)
And this morning I watched my DVR recording of 20/20: Taboo – What You Can’t Get Away with in America, also on ABC. Well, the show didn’t piss me off as much as some of the comments on their boards. Freelance journalist Helen Kirwin-Taylor wrote an article for London’s Daily Mail entitled “Sorry, But My Children Bore Me to Death.” And I totally agree with her, yet just about every comment slams her as a bad parent. Puh-lese! If your entire life revolves around your children, you have issues. It is a bad idea to devote your entire life to someone else. That doesn’t mean don’t love them and spend time with them, just have some balance. Then there’s the whole N-word debate going on which is a mine-field. Couples that don’t match in looks or body sizes or colors. Whatever.

Watched the last of something comedic on TNT this morning (around 5:48 am) and the character was a county sheriff reading aloud from a suggestion box and smoking a cigarette. I can’t remember the last time I saw someone on TV smoking a cigarette without there being a specific reason. Must be Canadian. Kidding.
I’m not happy with the season ending of Grey’s Anatomy. I think there’s going to be way too many changes next season and I don’t think I’ll like it.
Veronica Mars was canceled?
Jericho was canceled.
Drive was canceled.
Why does cancelled look righter?
Ugly Betty! OMG Ugly Betty. The most telenova episode so far! Poor Hilda. Poor Justin. Especially love the chemistry between Wilhelmina and Marc. She does love him in her own bitchtress way. And Betty and the dental chick were so cute. I love this show.
I missed CSI this week. CBS doesn’t do the free episodes on the website the next day thing? Morons.
This is wrong in so many ways.

I never was a huge Elvis fan but this is profanity. I hate when they do this kind of crap. The man is DEAD. Just because (with today’s technology) you can that doesn’t mean you should. She’s not honoring him, she’s being indulgent and disrespectful. At least when Natalie did that duet with her dead father, it was her FATHER and she’d never had the chance when he was alive. That was honorable. This is just tacky³.

Specifically because there was nothing else on at the moment, I gave In Case of Emergency a chance. One chance, BTW. Puh-lese. First of all, this show might not be so stupid if the Silverman and Arquette roles were played by guys in their mid-twenties rather than guys in their thirties. Youse guys is way too old to play spastic morons, man. And secondly, WTF is with Lori Loughlin’s evil eyebrows?
American Idol. Brandon, while he did screw up the words to his song along with a couple of other singers, was not nearly as awful as that Sanjaya. I thought Brandon’s father was gonna get up and kick some ass. Even Sanjaya seemed disappointed. Damn those 14-year-old girls and their speed dialing. He ain’t that cute.
Ads for Dancing with the Stars are everywhere. Way to get record ratings by having a one-legged dancer on board. Buck says they have a when-will-her-leg-fall-off pool going at work. The whole thing is just too über-tacky to me.
Ad for Reign Over Me look interesting. Maybe the first time Adam Sandler doesn’t play Adam Sandler.
Lost. Lost. Sun’s accent seems different somehow. Like its been so long since she’s been on even she doesn’t remember what its supposed to sound like. 80 days? This shows seems like its been snailing along for years! Oh, right, it has.
Bah. Television should be better tonight. Ugly Betty! Go Betty!
Why does this scare me?

There are quite a few people I know who will take this idea and RUN with it.
3 minute videos? Yeah.
Why do I love my DVR?
Feb 9th
Dinner for Five on the IFC channel. You never know when one is coming on, so I just program my DVR to record any that pop up. I don’t even know if it’s a current program or old or what. I just find it fascinating. These actors-directors-writers-producers sit around the dinner table and talk to each other and you’re a fly on the wall. And its a short program, usually about 25 minutes. The one I watched just now had Jon Favreau hosting Billy Bob Thornton, Peter Berg, Brian Grazer and Buzz Bissinger.
There’s one episode (in three parts) on YouTube featuring Kevin Smith hosting instead of the usual Jon Favreau, and he had Stan Lee, JJ Abrams, Jason Lee, and Mark Hamill.
You should check it out.
Heroes, second viewing

Some little things:
Invisibility means no one can hear you talking either.
Why didn’t Sylar kill HRG? Is that final proof that HRG doesn’t have any powers after all? And for the record, there was no first name on that driver’s license. How the hell do you even get a driver’s license without your full legal name? But they live on 9 Juniper Lane. Isaac’s address is 681 and Clair’s Mom lives at trailer #36.
Favorite line of the night? “Selfish, deceitful . . . and gassy”

Can I say again how much I love Betty’s nephew. And Marc. But the whole Alex/Alexis story is shit.
TV last night.

Crap, Ugly Betty was a rerun. Why?
Grey’s Anatomy. Well . . . to be honest, I watched it piece meal. The first half, then Ginnie came in and wanted to watch but she hadn’t seen last week’s, so we went back and watched that from the DVR. Sort of . . . fast forwarded and stopping at the “good” parts (and we both cried, shit its only a TV show!) and then it was late and Ginnie needed her shower so I picked up where I’d left off on last night’s episode and got confused. T.R. Knight did an excellent job last week, and if he’s eventually nominated for something he’s gonna deserve it, just for that episode. Anyway, I really like this show and I still don’t know why. Favorite character? Bailey, hands down.
Men in Trees. Mindless entertainment. Not deep, not especially funny, not even an interesting story. Just nice.
