Castle, Finally!
Mar 10th
Like any true blue Nathan Fillion fan, I set the DVR to catch the premier of Castle last night. And promptly got SCREWED. SmallChild was here so of course we were tied up in uncounted repetitions of Gullah Gullah Island until she finally crashed. Then I got my favorite munchies together (Girl Scout Thin Mints and ice cold milk) and settled in to enjoy… and it wasn’t there.
AAAAAAAARrRRRRrrrRRRRrrgggghghhhghghghg!111!!111!!!!
So I waited until tonight to check the ABC site and found you can get it there. Sweet! So here’s what I thought. And yeah, I’m spoiling it.
It’s definitely a pilot. Here’s hoping the banter stays, but comes down off the edge of that cutesy cliff and mellows a bit. Don’t like the mother character. It’s your cliche cougar lady on show tunes and not done well at all. That actress has always played a little over the top anyway. Love the daughter and the interaction between her and Castle. The detective team will never match The Closer’s camaraderie so let’s hope they don’t go there. Don’t think I’m going to like the lady detective either. She’s got nothing, no personality, no connection, no chemistry so it’s no wonder Nathan is overplaying a little to compensate.
I liked Castle for the most part, but for one huge glaring STOOPIT towards the end. I know Nathan Fillion is computer adept. The man is online all the time. And the character is a well-known fucking WRITER (ala JC Hutchins or Scott Sigler or maybe closer to Stephen King) and yet there’s a scene where he’s home, at his desk with his feet up pretending to type on a laptop. Pretending I say because for a the entire camera sly-by the man never moves his fingers off the same keys. By the time a dozen of your books are published, chances are you can type. And don’t give me examples of writers who don’t type, THEY SHOW HIM TYPING and they need to do it right.
Huge pet peeve of mine. If they’re going to show someone typing (or playing the piano) have them IN FACT type or play something. We’re not stupid and it’s glaringly obvious when people are faking it. Takes me right out of it. Ruins the whole show.
So, I give the pilot a three out of five. I’m hoping this gets better with time but you know how these things work. IF they don’t get a huge share right away they’re doomed. Fucktard money hungry suits. Give it a chance, I am.
My New Moral Dilemma
Dec 2nd
Will I be able to continue to bitch about Heroes on Evo@11 now that Greg Grundberg and I are twitterpals?
Seriously!
I haven’t watched this week’s episode yet. Waiting for Ginnie to get home from school today. She gets peeved at me if I watch it before her because I make snarky comments all through the second viewing.
But it’s not personal. I’m bitchy about the writing and mistakes and pacing, but not so much about the actors. Well, some of the actors. That black-eyeball-killer actress is horrible. That speedy girl, I don’t know if her facial expression of permanently pursed lips is affected or if that’s how the girl actually looks, but it’s annoying as hell. Adrian Pasdar has been around forever and I’ve never thought he was any good as an actor.
Alright fine! I'll update already.

Geeze you people are nosy.
This week was mostly spent at home doing absolutely nothing but catching up on all the podcasts I missed the weeks before. Tuesday’s helping with Tyson was canceled*, but Wednesday I managed to get to Gangplank for his lunchtime talk regarding “What is Art?” After that I hung out with Sheila and we watched a couple of movies and headed back to Gangplank for our recordings. I got both episodes edited and loaded online by midnight and then crashed for the night.
The mail was slightly interesting today. I’m for jury duty on Monday, October 27th, which is going to be logistically difficult with the Girlchild’s school schedule. Oh well, plenty of time to figure it out. Also got a short survey from Nielsen and they pre-paid me two whole dollars! Whoopie-shit.
What else? Need a man. Need a sexual partner in the worst way. Don’t want a re-la-tion-ship, just someone to come over on a quasi-regular basis and have some fun. Know anybody?
Also caught up on some DVR’d stuff. Guessed correctly who the last 5 were going to be on America’s Got Talent. Watched How to Look Good Naked, Jon and Kate Plus 8, Project Runway, and the last of the Jeremiahs. I really liked that show. I’ve checked out the new 90210 (blech) and the following show Priveledged, which isn’t bad. Netflix has provided me with a couple DVDs of Planet Earth so I’ll have something to watch this weekend. I’m pretty sure I have my DVR set for all the returning shows and I don’t think I’ve seen anything new advertised that I want to see. Maybe this podcast I’m listening to now will have some suggestions.
Oh yeah, I’ve decided to be nice and told Casey that if he wanted to invite his father to Kira’s birthday party next weekend, I’d stay away. My choice. Buck’s still apparently got issues being around me and I’m with Kira all the time so let him have that day. If he decides not to attend (which I secretly expect) I’ll go after all.
Okay, that’s all I can think of. I get paid tomorrow so I expect to click someone’s paypal button first thing in the morning. I wish I could do more.
Jul 7th
I’ve just started watching the Robin Hood series (yay, Netflix) and I’ve learned something already.
There are a few nice looking Englishmen out there after all.
Little comments about little things
Apr 30th
Clicked on a link for this kid Andrew Johnston who, like Paul Potts last year, looked like blah-nothing until he opened his mouth and glorious singing came out. I have no desire to attend or listen to Opera but I have serious respect for people who can sing at that level.
When I was in High School, we had an assistant principal named Mr. Florido. Quiet little dude, always had a half-smile and interacted well with the students. One of my favorite administrators ever. Then one day he walked into our choir class and opened his mouth and magic came out. He sang . . . something, I don’t know what but there’s no way even the most callas teenager could disrespect it. I Googled his name today just for shits and giggles and now he’s a Roman Catholic priest in California. And a Democrat.
I’m hoping he still sings.
Def Leppard on Dancing With The Stars? What. The. Fuck! And if they were going to have two regular cameras on the bored-looking drummer, what was that fish-eye webcam supposed to show us? I’m okay with this week’s cutting of Shannon, and I know Marissa is going soon. She’s so adorable, but she ain’t gonna win. Great that she’s made it this far though. She should get an award for most improved.
I watched Sweeney Todd last night. Ever wonder if Burton, Depp and Carter do threesomes in the bedroom too or do they save all that chemistry for on screen?
I watched No Reservations this morning. Nice to see once.
I did have a really nice birthday. Ginnie took me for my very first mani-pedi. Yes, it was nice but it’s definitely a luxury I won’t bother to afford regularly. I’ll enjoy my matching hands and feet until they rot and leave it at that. After I dropped her off I took myself out for a chef’s salad at Big Apple. I love love love their cinnamon French salad dressing.
The night belonged to Sayesha
Apr 23rd
I really don’t care for the girl but last night’s Andrew Lloyd Webber extravaganza was the perfect event for her. She rocked it. When she’s eventually dumped from AI, she’s got a career on Broadway.
Sayesha – “One Rock & Roll Too Many” from Starlight Express – ♥♥♥♥♥
Jason – “Memory” from Cats – ♥♥
Brooke – “You Must Love Me” from Evita – ♥♥ (once she got past her very unprofessional fuckup)
David A. – “Think of Me” from Phantom – ♥♥♥
Carly – “Jesus Christ Superstar” – ♥♥♥♥♥
David C. – “Music of the Night” from Phantom – ♥♥♥♥
Apparently the judges don’t agree with me and more than likely the voters won’t either. And though I usually like musicals, I haven’t really liked the movies based on ALW shows. I didn’t finish Cats, barely made it to the end of Phantom, and vaguely remember seeing bits of Superstar. I skipped Evita altogether and don’t even know if Starlight Express was made into a movie. Yeah, I know the stage productions are vastly different but I can’t afford the cost when one eventually comes here. Nor could I convince anyone in my family to go with me if I tried.
Sheesh Syesha!
Apr 1st
Doesn’t she know she has a earn diva status? Yet another song that’s she’s just not good enough to sing. You ain’t Whitney honey. Stop trying.
Michael did a great job. David Cook did a good job. The rest were meh.
I love my DVR
Mar 19th
I spent most of this morning catching up on some stuff I had recorded.
Kyle XY – meh. Sappy Prom episode that any high-schooler could have written.
Hey, did you know there was BSG marathon yesterday? Too late, you lose. I’ve watched two of those, trying to refresh my memory.
Dancing with the Stars: Ladies Night. That tennis player is the first to go I’ll bet. Marlee Matlin kicked ass! That one girl from Hairspray is delightful (I can’t think of a better word) but she better rein it in a bit for the more formal dances. You can’t help but grin right along with her, though. I love watching people have genuine fun.
Speaking of grinning, ain’t it a shame what people do to themselves? Priscilla Presley can’t even smile! She’s fucking scary looking! Is there a 12-step program for Botox addictions?
Now I’m headed out to watch Jericho. Plus I have a bunch of Robot Chickens waiting.
The Return of Jezebel James
Mar 16th
I don’t remember why, but I DVR’d the first night of The Return of Jezebel James.
First impression, YUCK!
It was actually two 30 minute episodes and in the first episode Parker Posey (Sarah, book editor) has her 10-year-long boyfriend leave her AND she finds out she can’t have children. I hate this character. She’s too hyper, she’s too over-acting, she’s too *gag*. But she tracks down her long lost sister CoCo, who appears to be some sort of family black sheep (drugs? crime? inappropriate relationships?) and convinces her to have her baby.
The second half episode is a little better. Sarah bring Coco back to her apartment/loft and shows her how anal she is, from the lists of local shops restaurants to the magazine layout decorating. And she wants a kid? Then she presents matching Hello Kitty cell phones (the ears light up when it rings)for emergencies only. They fight, they make up, their parents show up, Mom (Dianne Wiest) is so much like my own Mother I got the shivers, blah blah blah and the show ends up with a Hello Kitty Theme song.
The question I can’t answer is why I sat through an hour of this and why I haven’t canceled the recording for next week. Parker Posey sucks but I like the other actress. And Scott Cohen (with a completely different voice, I didn’t believe it was him at first the voice sounds so different) is Sarah’s new boyfriend who puts up with quite a bit of shit for very little reward.
Whatever.
