It’s all good… except
Feb 15th
First I moved my blog from my friend’s server to Page.ly. I completely understand the security reasons behind the pain-in-the-ass restrictions with my previous host, but I decided I’d rather pay Page.ly a minor monthly fee (I had a coupon) than hassle every update for free. And it’s all good… except my categories are all out of whack.
Then I moved me to a new apartment. Actually I didn’t move me, Ginnie, Tyler, Max, Casey and Kira did. Yes, Kira was a lot of help carrying little things, running back and forth on her little younger legs. I’m mostly set up here. I still have a couple of boxes of books and stuff but everything else has it’s place.
- The good: Brand new carpets and blinds throughout. Washer is a bit loud, but at least I have one. I have a fireplace! The place is pretty big, first floor, covered parking.
- The bad: Slight smell of wet pressed-wood from the (fixed) leaky kitchen sink that I hope will fade. I’m a little close to Gilbert road traffic, and I’m on a front corner so I get a lot of resident traffic, but I only really hear it when the TV is off. School buses drop off right outside my door. And I can’t figure out how to get the static electricity out of my new plastic vertical blinds in my bedroom, so I feel a little exposed. They keeps sticking together at the bottom and leaving spaces.
- The ugly: Dead and dying cockroaches. Little ones and BIG ones. I was told they sprayed repeatedly before I moved in and there might be some crawling out to die. Right. Every morning there are at least a dozen little dead ones around on the floor, but the BIG ones take a little more… encouragement to die.
But I’m breathing 80% better and I like my neighborhood more. Everything I need within a 2-mile radius.
The best part? I’m alone!
What's Goin' On?
Jan 5th
Well… nuttin much.
Firstly, don’t post anything about Carol Channing. Seriously. I’ve gotten more pingbacks on that one simple snark post than anything I’ve EVER posted. Those Carol Channing fans are paying attention. Geeze.
And then, I ended up in the emergency room AGAIN Monday night. That’s 6 asthma attacks severe enough for medical assistance since last January 1st.
Then there was the continuing arguments with GirlChild. She finally got off her ass and completed the paperwork to start classes next week. Still no job but at least she made a move. She apparently whined at her brother and he told her tough shit. Grow the hell up and get a friggin job already.
I’ve applied for a new apartment back in Mesa on Gilbert Road. They haven’t let me know for sure but I think it’s a done deal. Moving February 7th if you’re not doing anything. *hint hint* And it’s a one-bedroom so NO KIDS moving with me.
I’m still perusing craigslist for RVs for sale. I wandered into a couple of dealerships and they’re all “you can’t finance anything older than 10 years and you need at least $20k down” so that’s not going to happen. If I get lucky I can find someone who will let me take over payments. Like when pigs fly.
Let’s see… what else.
I was supposed to have a meeting tonight to start a new business. I’m being pushed into it after a nonchalant conversation with a friend. I mentioned I’d like to start a business using my podcast producing skills in a different way and he jumped on it. Rounded up a couple of other people and we were supposed to hash/hack it out but he’s sick. Maybe next week. I’m actually getting pretty excited about it.
I think that’s it for now.
Happy New Year!
Dec 31st
Hopefully.
It’s been a long year, especially this last month. But I have plans for 2011.
Of course, I planned to start looking for motor homes today, but I have a sick little girl and it’s like, FREEZING outside. Arizona doesn’t really have weather so when we do it’s all extreme and shit. Yesterday people were reporting SNOW in Scottsdale and parts of Mesa. So I think I’ll wait til next week to get started.
Motor Home you ask? Well, the plan hope is to find a nice used class C motor home to live in. I want smaller space (so the kids can’t live with me anymore) and I want to travel so why not combine the two? My credit sucks and even though I’ve been excellent since my divorce I’m pretty sure my/our past history will factor in, so this whole plan might fail. But I want to try. Who knows, with the housing market sucking so bad, maybe I can find a deal somewhere. People trying to keep their house might like to dump their RV.
And then I’ll park it for the winter and travel in the summer. Sound like a plan?
And well, if that fails… I still need to get out of this apartment. It sucks so bad. If the neighbor showers or flushes his/her toilet, we have no water pressure. Fun when you’re standing fully shampooed in the shower and the water suddenly goes down to a cold trickle. Like yesterday. My lease is up February 1st.
So I’m also keeping an eye out for 1 bedroom or large studio apartments in Tempe, Chandler, or this side of Mesa. Casey wants me to move into their apartment complex. No fucking way. I’d never have a private moment again. His little friend group has taken over (4 apartments and growing) the dumpy little place and they all walk in and out of each other’s homes like it’s a commune.
A nice mother-in-law apartment would be nice. A decent converted garage apartment? Something.
I’ve been waiting all month to have the extra gas money for the driving around checking out places part and now that I have it, I also have Kira with her cough and snuffy nose all day. And then there’s partying tonight and recovering tomorrow. And then Sunday when the world shuts down. So I suppose I can wait til next week…
So Happy New Year for us all! Okay? Please?
Oh yeah, today is Max and Krystal’s 1st Anniversary. Hopefully I can meet up with them for 5 minutes or something.
Oh, here you are!

No I didn’t forget ya, I’ve just been busy and distracted. Here’s how the last week went.
Thursday Mom called to tell me my cousin Jackie died unexpectedly. Well not that unexpectedly as I had noticed she was posting hospital testing comments on Facebook. I feel bad that I didn’t pay more attention before it was too late to commiserate. Apparently she went to her local Michigan hospital thinking she was having a heart attack and they sent her to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Nine days later she was gone in her sleep. Something to do with Amyloidosis. I’m clueless about what that is.
Friday night #evfn at Whole Foods was fun. LaDawn and I went to Yucca Tap Room but after a drink and a game of pool I pretty much dumped her there. I had too much to do and didn’t feel well anyhow.
Saturday I spent the day packing the last of my stuff and in the afternoon Casey and bunch came over to move the heavy furniture. They said they’d move it all so I left to go have my…
Debbie’s Naked Pool Party. Seriously. Excellent. Party. I had three ciders and no problem getting naked. Good friends, good party and we even recorded a show during it.
I came home to my new apartment to find that no, in fact they did NOT move everything else after all. So Sunday Ginnie and I schlepped back and forth looking for house keys and then finally packing as much crap as I could into my car before Casey and bunch came back to move the rest…
While I drove to Phoenix to bail Max out of jail. Long story I really can’t go into, but I just paid the bail and left him to find his own way home hours later.
By Sunday night – between the moving and the stress and the humidity and the dust – I was really struggling to breathe so I ended up at the VA emergency room Monday morning. I might post more about that fiasco later. A couple of albuteral treatments and I’m just fine.
Monday night I went over to CJ’s to record their show (the first half is about Star Trek TNG/the second half about their life) about our trip together to SDCC.
I think I finally have my new apartment mostly put together. I need a few things like shelves and plug thingies. Most of the sockets in this apartment are two-prong sockets, which poses a problem in our three-prong electronic world. Easy fix, just gotta do it.
Whew, I think we’re all caught up. SmallChild and her cousin are here and we’re watching Ella Enchanted for I think the 615th time.
Summer Travels

I’m going to TAM! Well, not really. I’m going to Vegas July 8-11 to hang out with the illustrious when they’re not at the actual convention. I really can’t afford the tickets to TAM 8 so I’m tagging along for the parties… and VEGAS!
Then July 21-25 I’m going to San Diego ComiCon with my friend CJ (@twinklergirl) . That should be a ton of fun but exhausting. Dragon*Con kicks my ass and this is bigger. But I can’t wait.
Then I have to move the first weekend in August. Gotta get a cheaper apartment… okay, a dump that costs less. I prepaid and bartered for the above trips but the next one is on me. And might cost a bit. So Ginnie and I are getting an apartment together again. She’s not a bad roommate, as long as there’s no guy along. We should be fine. Should.
The end of August I’m taking a road trip up to Minnesota. I’m not sure when I’m leaving (or coming back) but the sooner the better. I wonder how long I can stay there.
I suppose I should come back. I have commitments with PodCampAZ and podcasting. I thought about heading east after Minnesota, but the further I go there’s the long trip back. Alone.

1. New owner of four brand new tires. Now I feel safer making plans to drive to Minneapolis. I was sitting outside the Firestone place when some guy in a low-rider pulls up and offers me a CD of his band’s music. “Is it like what you’re listening to right now?” At his nod I decline his offer politely, “Sorry dude, that’s not my kind of music, thanks.” AND HE GIVE ME A NOISE AND A DIRTY LOOK! Seriously? Do I look like your demographic? Sure, this middle-aged chunky white woman just loooooooves hip-hop. Save your CD for someone who gives a shit.
2. I love trees. Trees are what make summers in Arizona bearable. I wish people were better at trimming where they overhang walk areas. The other problem with trees is birds. Bird shit to be more specific. You really take your chances when you park under a tree so your car won’t burn you.
3. I put my 60-day notice to move. I don’t have a clue where I’m moving to, but I need to get out of here. A two-bedroom apartment is too much strain on my budget, leaving me with nothing extra. Spent a few hours on craigslist and rental sites yesterday looking for a decent studio but no luck so far. A converted garage or MIL apartment would be perfect. I just need a home base for when I’m NOT traveling.
And why am I always so sure travelling should have two ls?

Well, moving is done. Old apartment is empty and as clean as I can get it, but fully expect them to charge me to replace the carpet. It’s NASTY. After two years with a toddler, a dog and too many sloppy adults there’s just no way that’s getting clean. And when I moved in I paid a non-refundable re-painting deposit so I’ve already paid them to repaint, right?
The new place? Smaller, which is fine. I’m just sweating where I’m going to stick stuff. There’s not a lot of storage for holiday decorations (I dumped our Christmas tree) and extra hardware/home improvement/craft stuff I’ve gathered over the years. I have a habit of buying the necessary parts for a project and then never actually DOING it.
And speaking of sweating, the A/C had been running since the first moment we got here Saturday morning but it hadn’t cooled off. All through the move and through the night it maintained at probably 85° . You know, cool enough so you’re not dying in the 114° heat, but not cool enough to actually DO anything like sleep. I headed over to the office and within the hour they’d fixed it and as of sometime in the middle of the night it got downright cold in here.
I’ve got a cough that at first I attributed to dust from the packing and moving but now I think it’s officially a cold. Nyquiled last night so I feel a bit better this morning.
Max and Kela are journeying back to Iraq right now for a couple of months then they’re back in Hawaii. I’ll post pictures as soon as I find my cords in this mess.
This new apartment doesn’t have overhead lights in the bedrooms. Desk lamps really don’t put out enough light to unpack at night. We’re moving slow. And someone ripped the coax hookup right out of the back of Ginnie’s TV, which we’d planned to put in the living room. Roger has a better one for their bedroom and I gave mine to Casey, but had to get it back last night after spending a couple hours trying to get this broken TV to work some other way.
Small problems in the scheme of things. But I now live back in Tempe! Yay!

Ginnie gets a call this morning for Casey. Tempe detective wants to show him a photo lineup of suspects regarding Ed’s stabbing. No, none of the pictures was the guy but at least we know it’s still being worked on. Once Ed actually died the case got bumped up to murder. How many murders are there IN Tempe anyway?
So Casey asks the detective (as he’s taking my number because everyone else changes numbers so often) how he got Ginnie’s number to begin with. “It’s what I do.”
_____
Also, Ginnie called her father about something or other and he tells her, “Oh by the way, I’m getting married on Monday.”
Have a nice life dude. Someday you’ll figure out YOU have to make an effort to keep in contact with your children. It’s not their responsibility, it’s yours.

I’ve got a busy couple of months coming up. The first 10 days in July I’ll be in Minnesota and the first ten days of August I’ll be packing and moving to Tempe. I finally settled on a complex on Mill between Southern and the 60. The complex and certain apartments have recently been renovated so it shouldn’t be too crappy. The model was decent. Plus water and electricity are included in the rent and it’s still less than the rent I’m paying here. They have three pools, an Internet Cafe and a brand new exercise room on the property. I’ll have extra money soon! I plan on being a regular at IKEA.
I’ll invite you all over once I get settled it.
