Somehow I’m helping with yet another podcast out of Gangplank. That makes three so far. And I’m still figuring things out! Pressure, pressure.
There’s the Gangplank Podcast, where they discuss what Gangplank is, social media, marketing, ice fishing, etc. The second podcast hasn’t been announced yet. And the third is run by my friend Tyson Crosbie and I think it’s going to be about marketing, small business and I dunno what, I’ve only worked on one so far.
I’m loving it. Srsly. FINALLY I’m contributing something! Not just given a “job” without the materials or feedback to carry it out. No having to nag people to get off their ass and give me the files or contacts or whatever if they want me to do it. No more being set up to fail. There’s follow-through now. Ideas are wasted time when you don’t follow through. This group is moving forward.
Okay sure, I don’t know everything I need to know about peaks and levels, and how all the equipment works exactly. But I’m learning pretty quickly. And I think I’m good at the editing part. I think I have a good ear for it. At least I’m getting excellent feedback and support!
Went to see Mamma Mia! the other night. Don’t bother. It’s a rental. Not campy enough to be campy. OVERacted to beat the band. And although Pierce Brosnan makes an excellent spy, when he sings you’re left wondering just how big IS that vice grip attached to his balls? Painful! I did love how much fun Christine Baranski and Meryl Steep seemed to have doing those song and dance scenes. The best part of the whole movie is the final credit sequence. And there’s a couple of ABBA songs I’d never heard before and liked.

It’s JUNE! I haven’t been letting myself get excited about this trip to Hawaii, but I have in my possession proof of purchased tickets for the trip out on June 12th, and Max tells me he HAS purchased the return tickets for the 19th. So (unfortunately?) Ginnie and I won’t be trapped in Hawaii after all. He’s on Honolulu so we’re planning the obligatory trip to Pearl Harbor and the Arizona monument that Ginnie wants. Sure, I’ll like it too. And I told him I wanted to check out whatever we could find of Lost sites. According to Google Earth, they’re on the North West side of the same island. Plus whatever “nature” beauty we can find.
Seriously though, there’s no frakking way I can make myself get on any sort of small inter-island hopper plane so if they decide to explore other islands I’m out. Ginnie would love a helicopter trip. Maybe there’s boats? I’m cool with boats. She wants to see the volcano on the big island. I just want to hang at a beach.
Speaking of Lost, holy crap! Things are definitely picking up on that show. BSG is really interesting, too!
Catchup time. Um, Friday night I hooked up with @LaDawn, @LauraK, and @ElizaSea and after drinks, we went to see the Sex and the City movie. Let me preface my comments with this statement: I have never seen the series. All I know is what any normal person gained from commercials, comments, and general chit-chat.
It was a nice little waste-some-time movie. If I had to relate to any character, I’d be closer to Samantha. I cannot conceive of being obsessed by designer labels. I own three pair of shoes. I cannot imagine needing a closet larger than my living room. Oh well. If you got it, flaunt it I guess. I just don’t get it. Maybe I’ve always been too cheap. And most Carrie’s clothes were Fugly! The only thing she wore that I liked was a tie-dyed long dress she had on in one scene.
But I kept getting yanked out of the movie by Carrie’s hands. IF you spent your entire existence in thousands of dollars of designer clothes and shoes, wouldn’t you take better care of your fingernails? Seriously! She has the ugliest nails I’ve ever seen in a movie. Not necessarily long and polished as she’s supposed to be a writer, but dayum girl, ever heard of a manicure?
So anyway, nice girlfriend flick.
Yesterday, I went to the Podcamp AZ workup. The thing isn’t until November but we volunteers are trying to make it bigger and better than last year. Right now the focus is on the media kit and website so we have something to show possible sponsors and speakers. We all went to lunch after so I got to just hang with my friends Sheila and Evo, Dani, Dan and CJ for a while.
The story so far

I have managed to get one (yes 1 – one – uno) Christmas present so far. Ginnie and I went halfsies on a Fisher Price Baby Gymtastics Bounce and Spin Zebra (which, BTW, we got for $40 at WalMart – who the fuck would pay $199 for this?) and that’s all.
Casey showed up late Friday and Rene right behind him and between their screaming match outside my door and me being sick and trying to remember Kira’s medicines to go home with her . . . I forgot to get paid. This cold has kicked my ass. I’m not going to admit to anything flu-like because I got a stupid flu shot so it can’t be the flu so there.
Anyway, they didn’t come into town yesterday at all and if I want my money I have to go out to Florence and get it. Swell. I really don’t want to take my car out to the boonies but I need money. I need to get Ginnie something for Christmas.
And groceries, and gas, and it’s a long way til next Friday when my VA check comes in. Oh well.
I got a Secret Santa present in the mail yesterday! Way cool liquor filled chocolates and a dragon key chain from Idunnowho. Thank you Secret Santa whoever you are. I’m pretty sure it was from one of my friends on Pernese Friends but I couldn’t reciprocate so I thought I was out. But I get stuff from all my friends so thanks!
Casey handed me an unwrapped electric griddle the other night with a “Merry Christmas Mom.” Great! Wrapping would have been a nice touch, but again Friday night was a confusing blur for everyone. I need to get him something, too.
I loaded a couple more pictures on flickr. I just noticed they’re all a little off-center. It’s an old camera. Yeah. It’s the camera.
I got Father Goose, one of my all-time favorite movies, from Netflix and the last 10 minutes were screwed up. Supposedly I’ll get another copy, but that just ruined it for me.
We all watched Superman Returns last night and I thought it was crap. Seriously. I still don’t understand how these supposedly intelligent newspaper people can’t see Superman in Clark. And that frakking airplane at the beginning would have disintegrated from the shuttle speed long before it fell apart later. And I find it hard to believe even Superman could have lifted that entire land mass especially with it laced with Kryptonite. Superman is bullshit of the highest degree. Spiderman is believable, and Batman is just a rich guy with cool toys but they both tend to stay within a certain degree of believable. Everyone in Metropolis is stupid as shit (except Lex Luthor) and now there’s a kid? Who wants to bet those extra crystals appear somewhere in the next movie?
Oops, spoiler alert. Like it matters.
DVDs Last Night

Ginnie has turned me on to Redbox. $1 for 24 hours. Period. Late? Another $1 for 24 hours. New releases even. Okay, it’s not Netflix full of obscure choices, but I wanted Transformers early yesterday morning and I didn’t have to wait for the regular Hollywood Video to open at 10 or pay $4+ to rent it.
So I rented Transformers and Black Snake Moan. Both HOLY SHIT movies of the highest caliber. Transformers was a geekfest full of great transformations, funny lines and fairly decent acting. Perfect popcorn movie. (Ginnie dropped a heavy tumbler on her toe Monday night and could barely walk yesterday so I let her stay home – bad mommy.) We loved it. The only problem was there are no special features on the Redbox rental version. Were there no special features on this release at all?
I watched Black Snake Moan last night. Oh my. OH my. The only thing I’d heard about this previously is Samuel L. Jackson keeps Christina Ricci chained to his radiator, and that Justin Timberlake didn’t totally suck in this movie. What a good movie. It’s not dirty but it is sexy, and sad but good. You know, I can relate somewhat to the Rae character. I didn’t have the sickness but I did act sort of the same way when I was young. For similar reasons, too. Don’t ever think a kid gets over being molested without it leaving scars.
Harry Potter, again

Okay, how to talk about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix without spoiling it. It was shorter than I expected. There were many characters you recognize if you’ve read the book, but barely have a speaking role, or are just a cameo. Cho barely speaks, Nymphadora has one line (and you can guess that one) and Percy doesn’t speak at all.
Helena Bonham Carter was perfect as Bellatrix.
I seriously want to do Sirius. Every which way and back again.
Imelda Staunton loved playing Umbridge, you can just tell. She shivers with joy the whole time.
I don’t think the character of Luna was played anywhere near the oddness portrayed in the book. She’s just not enough.
Harry finally found his balls. For a moment anyway.
The AMC we went to filled 20 of its 24 theaters. But most of them were opened hours before so there really was no waiting in line or outside. We went in around 8 and picked great seats and Ginnie and Corey wandered over to WalMart while I sat there for hours and read. At AMC you can bring in whatever outside food you want so we had Charlie’s Steakery and boy there’s a difference in those. The store down the block here has gotten nasty, but that one is still good. And their lemonade is to die for.
The girl who sat next to me (getting there 20 minutes before the movie started) discussed the movie with her partner THE ENTIRE TIME. A running commentary of “OH MY GOD There’s Malfoy! Eeek! Wow, there’s Luna oh boy she’s creepy!” (no she wasn’t) and so on. And the woman in front of me texted on her phone until I kicked the back of her chair a couple of times. Other than that, the midnight movie experience was great. Nice little mini-adventure. Though getting out of the parking lot at the same time as 19 other full movie theaters was a drag.

Alan Tudyk is in Knocked Up! A small part. Yes, I went with Ginnie and her pal Ashley to see it yesterday. Cute movie if it weren’t so unbelievable. No, I don’t think any woman would continue to hang around that guy.
