Weekend Update, Live with Regis and er, nope, just me.
Jul 9th
Friday: I really tried. I ventured into Second Life again to attend the launch party for the third 7th Son book. I got there about an hour before the party started, managed to get stuck in a corner of the auditorium and had to restart. The whole program is so frustrating to me. I don’t play those kinds of online games so I’m unfamiliar (and impatient) with how to move. I managed to find a place to stand around, but I couldn’t see the plane JC arrived in, I have no idea about the dump truck mentioned, and when every one transferred to the water tower to watch it blow up, I was frozen in the elevator shaft and had to reboot again. By the time I got back, the thing had apparently exploded, there was a group standing at the base and all they were saying was we’d crashed Second Life and everyone was giving up. Oh, and there was an enormous yellow dump truck blinking in and out. What a waste of time that whole night.
Saturday: Casey called to say he’d bought a truck (with no driver’s license?) and that I didn’t need to pick up Kira so I assumed that meant I wasn’t expected to babysit either. So I went up to the studio and sat in on the new Wingin’ It 3-D. We chatted food for a while afterward, watched Fight Club but I can’t talk about because the first rule of Fight Club is, don’t talk . . . whatever. That movie is so full of bullshit. Must be a guy thing. Anyway, we all went out to Sushi Brokers (oh wow! Mouse over the logo, it’s COOL!) where I had chicken fried rice, of course. I have tried some varieties of sushi and am completely happy with my chicken fried rice, thank you very much.
When I got home just before 10, there was Buck rocking Kira to sleep. Oops. I didn’t know we were babysitting after all.
Sunday: Spent a nice morning playing with Kira.
Max called, he’s fine. Wants me to send him certain pictures so I spent Kira’s naptime searching and not finding them.
Casey, Renee, Sara and Casey’s long time friends Ed and Mikey-O came over for a swim and so Buck could check out the A/C (or lack thereof) on their new vehicle. We had a nice afternoon in the pool and then Ginnie and Casey ran out for pizza. Then they all left and I finished a book I’d been reading.
Just another weekend.
The 4th of July, a day late.
Jul 5th
First of all, I’m all better. I know you was worried. /smirk
Secondly, we actually had a pretty great day! Pictures! Not too many as I decided to have a bit of fun rather than just shooting everyone else doing it.
Lazed away the morning and then picked up Casey’s family at 1-ish. Stopped at The WalMart (you just have to say that like you’re in deep south) and stocked up on drinks and snackage, and Renee picked up July 4th outfits for the girls. Got home and went directly up to the pool. There were other people there but it wasn’t crowded. No bratty kids or obnoxious radios, just a couple of quiet families cooling off. After Kira practically drowned falling asleep in her floatie (it has this little water pocket for baby toys and she kept keeling over face first) we all trudged home for naptime.
We loaded up both vehicle and headed up to the park (I stopped for KFC for the bunch while Buck went to find two excellent parking spaces) though we were a bit early. Got there just before 6 and parked right across from where we sat. You have to check out the map I posted. Everyone fills that park according to available shade and nearness to the bandstand, as I did last year, but this time I remembered how crowded it was over there. That entire green area fills tight with people by the end of the night except where we were and it ended up being the best place to see the fireworks (teeny trees) AND not have to walk forever to and from the cars. You don’t have see the bands (large screens, too) in order to hear the music. It was a little warm getting there that early, but we had shade from one lone tree and there was a breeze. That church at the top puts out a great fireworks display, the bands aren’t necessarily Christian, there are port-a-potties galore, and they have plenty of volunteers directing traffic. Unlike the city fiasco over at the community college.
Anyway. Nice day.
And I’m reserving comments and opinions regarding Casey’s new roommate/girlfriend Renee and her daughter, who is cute but seriously needs some attention.
Stuff and nonsense

I forgot this. I shared my Lucky Charms with Kira last weekend and the goofy kid prefers the cereal over the marshmallows. She’s young yet.
I got my first DVD review up on Slice of SciFi. Thanks Summer and Sam. Now I just have to do another!
Haven’t heard from Max in a while. That’s bugging me.
Buck’s still here. We’re like ships passing in the night. We have conversations but I’m still sleeping in here. We can’t afford to separate, and for now its just too much effort. I just don’t care anymore. Roommates. He’s doing his court mandated AA classes, though he really doesn’t have a drinking problem. He just screwed up and got caught.
I’m supposed to babysit tonight, but Casey’s plans change more often than his underwear. I need to go now and get the tags for my car, pay the car payments, and take some breakfast up to Ginnie at work. The food where she’s at is nasty, but the service is great. ![]()
General Stuff

Saturday: Watched all but the beginning of Zathura for the first time. Glad I never paid money for it, but it was a cute little movie. Then I wandered westward across Mesa looking for yard sales as I must get something safe for Kira to sleep in when she’s at my house. No such luck. I think its too late in the season for yard sales. Its just too hot already. Got to Draco Vista early, around 11 so I chatted with Kris and Lorrie and Eliza for awhile. After Winging It – more about the Wingin It thing in another post – I went over to Casey’s to pick up Kira and she wasn’t there. I’m supposed to meet Ben to pick her up. Great. I get to the meeting place and I get the baby and one bag of stuff. I get home and all that’s in the bag is diapers and formula and one bottle. No toys, no blankets, no clean clothes. So I called Casey and he says he sent everything with Ben the night before. Oh well. Out come the plastic measuring cups, the old fashioned stand-by toys. Buck went out so it was just Kira and I for the night. She was a happy camper and when it was time for bed I plopped her on Buck’s side of the bed so he slept in Ginnie’s room.
Sunday: Played with Kira, fed her scrambled eggs and cheerios, watched Catch and Release (Kevin Smith stole that whole movie) and Music and Lyrics. Took Kira home to her guys. I wonder if Casey’s roommate had a clue that with Casey comes Ed, Mikey-O, Derick, and assorted other less-than-stellar but still fairly nice guys. Its like three-to-six men and a baby over there!
Anyway Mom calls from the hospital. She’s in because the doctor thinks she’s at the beginning of heart failure. They’re running tests for a couple of days and then she’ll know. So we’re talking and she mentions going to Brittany’s graduation ceremony last weekend and then snidely that Dad couldn’t go because of some card game he just couldn’t miss. On and on about how SHE would NEVER miss anything THAT important with any of HER grandchildren and how pathetic . . . blah blah. So I gently point out how she chose to go to bingo the Sunday afternoon MY children and I were baptized so many years ago. Dead silence. I pointed out her husband at the time Ken, my Aunt and Uncle and various friends attended. More dead silence. She says she doesn’t remember. The reason I stopped talking to her back then. The reason for almost two years of no contact until my Grandmother made me promise to make up. And she doesn’t remember. Typical.
Okay, so it doesn’t matter NOW but it was important at the time.
Today in (my) history
May 26th
Got up at before dawn to get Buck to the Jail in Phoenix by 7:00 am. Picked up Sky and had McDonald’s breakfast. Picked up Kira from their friend’s house. Yard sailed a bit – didn’t find too many out there today. Came home and napped and played with Kira then Casey showed up and we went to the pool.
I’ve added three pool pics to my flickr.
Came home, went out for pizza and now they’re catching up on Heroes episodes they’ve missed.

Updated Kira page
Apr 9th
Notice page instead of site. Had to strip all the cutsie crap and multiple pages and gunk. Cox is screaming at me. I’ve used 9.89 MB of my free 10 MB limit on this kid. So either we have to give her away or she has to stop growing . . . or something. Or I suppose I could spend a dime and buy more space. Or plunk most of these pics on photobucket or some such entity. Whodafuckknows.
As for now, I need something else to look at.
A plethora of pointless posts

If you take 4 minutes of your life to enjoy this video (thanks to snowcalla) it won’t be wasted. I guaran-damn-tee it.
Kira and Grammi at the park yesterday.
So today, I’m actually going to take the time to organize the tons of pictures we’ve taken over the last few months and try to update Kira’s site so other relatives can see how she’s grown. Wish me luck.
I’m really sick of my friends arguing over religion and illegal immigration. Nothing anyone says will ever change anyone else’s mind on these matters so agree to disagree and let it go. Please.
I bought a cheap magnetic bracelet at WalMart. Why? I have no frakking idea. Hoping it will make a difference in how I feel eventually, but not counting on it. And I’m too lazy to do any research on it. The stupid thing was only $5 so if it doesn’t help, no biggie.
Received a bunch of stuff over the weekend, including three George Hrab CDs and the Pulp Fiction Soundtrack. *sqeeing* And a whole stack of books! Hey el_mcgruffle, is it Red Planet or Red Mars you’ve gone on about? Plus a copy of Billibub Baddings and the Case of the Singing Sword so I don’t have to wait for Tee to podcast to see how it ends.
Did I mention I bought new shoes at WalMart, too? Just a bit of a heel, less than two-inches. I haven’t worn anything with a heel in years but I didn’t think this lousy bit of one would be a big deal. Wore them to the movies Friday night, wore them again Saturday, but didn’t do that much walking. Woke up yesterday and my butt and thighs were KILLING me. I blames it on sleeping with Kira, possibly from being all tense and shit but NOOOoooOooo. I put them on to go to the grocery store and dayum. It was the frakking shoes. Am I so old that a little bit of a heel takes me down? Apparently.
Joe’s funeral is in Illinois tomorrow. Hugs to my friends that are going. I’m happy he’s at peace now. That shit hit him hard and fast. I never want to learn to say words like Leiomyosarcoma again.
Happy Monday.
Life lesson #896 – review
Apr 8th
NEVER sleep with a 6-month-old.
She’s outgrown the cradle and I haven’t had the cash to get one of those portable bed type things so I put her between us last night. Dumb move. Our bed is so saggy that even though I stuck her in the high part in the middle, she’s so active she kept scooching down by me. By active, I mean violently kicking and clawing most of the night. In her sleep, though. She’s doing frakking battle! I think I managed about an hour of sleep total. Maybe. I could be over-stating.
Next weekend, I’m getting a port-a-bed if it kills me, ’cause sleeping with her again certainly will.
