He’s one of the most generous men I’ve ever met.

When our podcasting friend Joe Murphy died, Tee was the front man for the website and podcast, first to raise money for Joe’s family and then to help fight leiomyosarcoma.

Tee was a founder and one of the first authors to give away their audio books at podiobooks.com.  He’s been recording and giving away his work since.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s also trying to sell his published books. I really like his Morevi series but Billibub Baddings is my favorite. He and Evo wrote the original Podcasting for Dummies.

Plus, he’s a hell of a DJ. And adorable. And sometimes annoying with all that energy. I could bring up positives about Tee all day.

But with the recent passing of his wife Natalie, he’s now also a single father.  The community has come together to help him in one of the few ways we can:

The Boom Effect

We can help take some of the financial pressure off Tee in raising Sonic Boom. Believe it or not, authors aren’t rolling in it. Hopefully we can be as generous to Tee as he is to us. I’ll be donating as soon as I can.

So if you have a few spare bucks you can send along to someone who will definitely need them please do so.

There was a sort-of contest on Wingin’ It to come up with a new nickname for Joe because he thought Joe Murphy just a little plain for podcasting. Mason Rocket was one of his favorite choices and when he died our friend Mur Lafferty had this song commissioned.

One of Joe’s favorite songs was Jonathan Coulton‘s First of May, so we podcasters recorded our own cover in memory of Joe. You can listen to that, too.

If you don’t know who I’m talking about, just know you missed out on a really funny, and really nice guy.

Had a dream last night that a bunch of us were playing poker (which I haven’t played in a bazillion years) including Joe, but just out of the corner of my eye at the other end of the table and he was wearing a tux. Which woke me up. And then I had that Mason Rocket song looping in my head for about an hour until I fell back to sleep.

And the next (and clearer) dream was horrible. I went by the hospice to drop off some books and Joe was there! Up moving around and in good spirits and sharing a room with other people (which is weird cuz the hospice wasn’t anything like that) and when I acted surprised he laughed. He said he’d told Micheal and Evo to tell everyone he died so people would stop visiting and worrying about him and then his cancer got better (?) and now he didn’t know what to do. He didn’t want to let people down by being alive and all after Mur and the guys had done so much.

“But they went to your funeral in Illinois!” I yelled. And he said, “Yeah, I wanted to take the stress off my Dad, too.”

Which is so true to his nature. I could so see it all happening this way, except the guys wouldn’t play along. Joe.

Getting back to sleep after that one was impossible so I came in here and jotted that all down. I hate that I remember my dreams. Because then I lay awake forever analyzing and re-writing them until I finally resort to fantasizing pornographically just so I can get back to sleep. Yes, sex fantasies put me to sleep. Go figure.

If you take 4 minutes of your life to enjoy this video (thanks to snowcalla) it won’t be wasted. I guaran-damn-tee it.

So today, I’m actually going to take the time to organize the tons of pictures we’ve taken over the last few months and try to update Kira’s site so other relatives can see how she’s grown. Wish me luck.

What I didn’t mention in yesterday’s post was that after Wingin’ It we recorded a memorial show for Joe. I mean, his death was inevitable and Mur was there and waiting until after would have been too painful. Nice memories, show excerpts, and a song or two dedicated to our Joe.

Man, am I tired.

Woke this morning with the baby. Breakfasted, she and me took a shower, snuggled a while and then I dumped her at Casey’s friend’s house.

Stopped by the hospice to see Joe and he was out of it. His Dad says they’ve upped his drugs again so there’s likely no chance he’ll be awake/aware again. Asked his Dad to let Joe know I stopped by if he does.

Then over to Draco Vista, where we ladies gathered to decide on the OhMiBod contest winners and commiserate. Met Mighty Mur and we all recorded Wingin’ It. Everyone’s kind of down. It’s the last one for a while until the whole Joe thing is over and everyone is ready to get back into it. They’ve created a Joe Murphy Memorial Fund if you want to donate and haven’t done so yet.

I got talked into going with the gang to dinner (not too much arm twisting) to some sushi place. Where of course, I had a hamburger. snowcalla, you’d be so proud of me, I did try a couple bites of something I couldn’t pronounce. It was gross³, but I did try. Then back to Michael’s for more music and head-shaving and memories of Joe time.

I drove through the parking lots of a couple of pool halls on the way home, just in case I’d get a chance to spy on the old man. NO such luck, he’d left a note here at home that he’d gone someplace in Snottsdale tonight instead of the usual places. I just want some kind of proof or facts or final decision fodder or something.
