If I had a million ducats
Dec 21st
I’d get my #1 son a car. A decent one with A/C.
I’d get my #2 son the best care package stuff available.
I’d get my daughter all the stuff she thinks she needs but stopped asking for.
I’d get my DIL those breathe right strips so she can sleep through the night now that the baby does, or earplugs, or a separate bedroom because #1 son snores up a storm.
I’d get my husband his old truck back so he can stop being so sad.
I’d get my mother moved to a nice residence care place so I can stop feeling guilty.
I’d get my father the deed to his home so he doesn’t have to worry anymore.
ahhhhhh
Holiday Trip, Part 1
Nov 27th
Friday: Took forever to get out of town. Casey had to go into work to pick up his check and with it being a holiday, of course it took a while to find a way to cash it. His boss apparently cashes their checks but he wasn’t there. A bit of traffic going from one highway to another but the rest of the drive was uneventful. We had a cooler and snacks so we didn’t actually stop to eat until dinner. But that was after getting to Tusayan and finding all the motels full, so we backtracked to Valle. Saturday morning we got up and had breakfast across the street from the motel at Bedrock City. Fred’s Diner. Fred’s Diner has no heat and that fireplace certainly didn’t keep our breakfast warm at all. Then we checked out the tourist thing before heading up to the Canyon again.
Try this .pdf file and see Bedrock City.
We had borrowed the neighbor’s mini-van so everyone had plenty of room and yet there was still arguing. Fart fights, oh joy. The baby was in the back seat with her mother, who complained quite a bit about being left out. And because the van was borrowed, I had to do all the driving, which wouldn’t have bothered me so much if they’d behaved better . . .
Happy Thanksgiving . . .

to everyone, even if you’re not in the US. There’s no reason you can’t set aside this day, or one soon, to have a huge meal with your friends and/or family. To sit together and tell them what makes you thankful. What they bring into your life.
Go on, get maudlin.
I think we should do that more than once a year anyway.
I’m thankful for my friends on here, who listen to my meanderings, who cheer me up when I’m cranky, who stand with me when I’m on a tear, and who give me a connection to their lives, too. I’m closer to some of you than I am to most of my extended family.
I got my first Christmas card yesterday, from freakin’ Cardiff! I love you people.
Oct 31st
I’m having second thoughts about the advisability of taking the baby trick-or-treating.
I just want to show her off.
And get candy.
Mudder's Day (yesterday)
May 15th
Up late, Buck made breakfast (bacon and eggs), read the paper, showered, screwed, got dressed and went to rescue pickup Ginnie, and Casey and Venus over for the afternoon. Stopped at the grocery to get cookout food (steaks) and came home to find Buck still steam cleaning the living room carpet – until the carpet cleaner croaked.
You know when you’re IN the house you don’t notice the odors as much? Yeah, come home and the whole place reeked of carpet cleaner stuff and bacon combined. I about died. But at 105°, it’s not like we could air the place out.
Sat ’round watching Armageddon again and then took C&V back home. Got back just in time for Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy. Had to record the final West Wing and watch it this morning, cuz I’m the only one here who likes it.
All in all it twas a very nice, average day. Max called, I called my Mom and Buck called his sisters.
OMG! I forgot. Well, I shouldn’t really say, either. Let’s say Buck’s nephew, who we haven’t spent more than 5 minutes around since 1980, did something huge . . . and really bad. Poor guy. He’s got three kids of his own now. Sentencing is next week. All I can say is . . . don’t drink and drive . . . and pass out . . . plowing through traffic at 90mph . . . and killing someone. I guess I did say. I’m on both sides of the fence for this one. On the one hand, he deserves whatever he gets. On the other, my BIL has used his entire retirement fund to get the kid a lawyer so he doesn’t get eaten by wolves, plus they’re now going to have to take care of the grandkids. Its tearing the family apart up there in Michigan, but they only told Buck yesterday. This must have happened a while ago, if the sentencing is next week, right? Buck’s not into the details, and I can’t find anything online.
Christmas Eve
Dec 24th
I just don’t get it. Max has, over the years, both loved and hated Candice. She’s been his first and only real girlfriend, the rest being a constant shuffle of Heathers, and Stephanies, and Amandas. They were together for almost two years when he was in HS. They broke up, she slutted out, lived with some older married guy, pierced stuff, smoked stuff, you know . . . all that rebelling against your LDS background . . . stuff. But she pops up in our lives periodically. Max always says don’t tell her my phone number, or where I’m working now or whatever but she always finds him. And he always caves.
Actually, I’ve always liked Candice. I don’t like a lot of the crap she’s put him through but from a distance I can see it’s a growing up thing. She’s always been sweet and respectful to me, and apologetic/remorseful/embarrassed about the choices she’s made that she knows upset me. Better than I can say for how she treats her own mother.
Anyway, she got his address from a mutual friend and has been writing him, they’ve been on the phone and he went to pick her up at the Greyhound station last night. They were here alone for a while (she can’t look me in the eye yet) while I took Ginnie last-minute shopping. Then gone all night together, too.
We’re cleaning house today. Buck’s cleaning the carpets, I’m “doing” the kitchen and Ginnie’s in charge of the bathroom. Sometime today I have to pick up Casey and Sky, then come back here and be at the airport at 5:15 this evening to pick up Mom and Bill-the-bigot. Soon as Max brings my car back. And stop at Jamie’s to pick up the baked stuff she made specially for me. Good thing it’s our family tradition to have pizza on Eve nights cuz I don’t have time to do anything else.
Happy Christmahannakwanzaaka to everyone.
And in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening and good night. (name the movie)

But you can’t really see the 3 foot inflatable reindeer under the tree on the left.
And I have one of those projectors that shows holiday stuff against the garage door, but I’m waiting until closer to the actual holiday to put that out.
