so don't ask if you don't want to know
How soon they forget
I heard on a podcast today that there was a WI3D recorded at Dragon*Con. My first impulse was WTF? A little pissed, a little hurt, a bit disappointed. And then I listened to it.
Let me list some former WI regulars and guests who were actually at D*C:
Me
Evo
TD0013
Kris the Cheesecake Lady
Thomas from Flagstaff
Tee Morris
Mur Lafferty
Trucker Overdrive (Jack Jaffe)
Brian Brown
And I’m pretty sure we were all there by Thursday evening.
People from the previous list who were at the D*C recording:
Brian Brown – the guy who threw down his headphones and said, “I quit” and stormed out of the studio at our last regular studio recording.
And this makes sense how? Whatever. And then when something was mentioned about other cast members not being there he had the nerve to say, “yeah, but you have the best one here.” Way to go asshole. You know, the asshole you didn’t want to be?
Brad Bower (podculture) and Brian Richardson did a good job hosting (except for their levels – Brad is a bit overpowering on this recording) and there was the usual trying of new drinks and randy innuendo. The show was fine, but as a listener it didn’t feel like a Wingin-It to me. I hope they’re all happy.
Again, whatever.

I listened to the first minute of it and when I realized there wasn’t any of the regulars on it I quit it. I didn’t realize Brian Brown was on there, but that still wouldn’t have made a difference. Without the rest of the regulars it just wasn’t WI.
Hearing you Evo and Sheila in my brainspace again is a lot of fun. You’re doing a great job on the engineering, so keep up the great work.

WTF?
That sounds all wrong. Why did they do it that way?

If you have to blame someone…..
Blame me.
Recording a WI3D at Dragon*Con was my idea. It was always up in the air until the actual recording time that it was even going to happen.
As for why some folks were there and some were not:
A. I wasn’t aware when we recorded that some of the folks on your list had got into Atlanta yet.
B. As the person who was organizing the recording (or at least trying to) I invited the folks that I felt the most comfortable recording with. Every person that was in the room is someone that I have personally recorded with or is involved with a show that I am involved with as well.
C. Despite the to the jokes to the contrary…..that hotel room was NOT exactly roomy….we couldn’t have crammed anymore folks in there.
NONE of this was intended as a slight to anyone at anytime, and I am sorry if it pissed you or anyone else off.
Brad
Also…..the reason for the less-than-stellar audio levels was due to our recording with my Zoom H4 and not being super-experienced at setting levels on the XLR inputs. That and my being naturally louder than Brian R. prob didn’t help either.

Re: If you have to blame someone…..
Aww Brad, I wasn’t slamming you! I’ve got this giant chip on my shoulder regarding Mr. Brown and maybe I was a bit over-snarky. I apologize if I hurt your feelings. I just don’t understand why you put on a WI3D thing when you do such a great show of your own. Actually, it was more of a Brian Richardson show than either yours or Wingin It’s.
Whatever, I let off my steam. Again, I apologize if you were upset. This certainly isn’t directed at you.

FWIW, I was there on Thursday evening, too. Not a regular on the show, although I have been in the studio once for a recording, but I was a regular voicemail contributor. Both Brad & Brian knew I was there on Thursday, or at least should have known.
Honestly, I deleted the WI3D feed from my iTunes when it became the endless collection of audio from the pool party. I had no idea that there was a new episode.
