Vegas Baby! The road trip was actually really nice. I got to know someone a little better than I had before and made him laugh and only stopped a few mutually agreed upon times. We left a little after 7 and got to Vegas a little after noon-thirty. I stayed at the Sahara and the room was old but fairly clean and conveniently located. The entrance to the monorail was right next to my elevators.

A lot, a lot, a lot of walking even after using the monorail. Through the Hilton to the back of the convention center and back again a number of times. I got to meet hellziggyright off the bat! With her was a friend of wickedgroovy Carrie who talks and talks and talks. Bunch of us met for dinner (pizza) and then off to the Coverville 500 concert. That started off with a live Dr. Floyd followed by Natalie Gelman.

ASIDE: You know, I didn’t really care for appreciate this young lady’s singing but I listened anyway. What I could hear. There was a bunch of loud-ass people at the next-over table just laughing and talking as if the singer was on a jukebox instead of live. Evo and some other people were tweet-bitching back and forth about this group so I made up a sign that said “STFU!” in bold letters and flashed it at them. At the same time, Evo’s wife Sheila came back to our table (she’d been photographing the performers) and marched over there and confronted them. Assholes.

Anyway . . . next came Jonathan Coulton – YAY! After that was a band called Screaming and Jumping Chance and the Choir and a good third of the audience beat feet for the door. I wanted to see the last performer, Richard Cheese, but CatC were supposed to be on for 45 minutes and I was just too tired to stay that long. Sorry Mr. Cheese.

I left and hung with PodcastJunky before wandering back to my room. Saturday morning I trudged (the feet were already starting to hurt) back over to the expo area and met up with some more people. Had second breakfast with Tee Morris and Philippa Ballantine and Jack Mangan and Paul Maki. Hung with more people, wandered the teeny expo again and ended up in the bar with Evo and Sheila for the rest of the afternoon. Meeting tons more people.

My thoughts about the actual Expo: What’s the point? There were maybe 30 booths of expensive services and equipment. Few podcasters make any money at it. Very few. This seemed to me to be more of a trade show for companies who want to get into podcasting and have actual budgets behind them. Which is fine, but I didn’t see a whole lot of company reps there. Whatever. It was a nice excuse for people to gather in one place and chat and maybe enjoy a bit of Vegas.

I managed to wander through the MGM and make my way over to the Luxor. I’ve seen most of these places years ago. Though I hear the Wynn – which was built after the last time I was there – has a circular escalator. That might have been interesting to see but my feet, calves and back couldn’t take ANY more and I blew a wad on a taxi to take me back to my hotel. I felt like the pumpkin nearing midnight.

As soon as SheilaDee makes the photos available I’ll link to the ones with me and my favorite podcasters.

Can hardly walk today. I have blisters on my feet and my calves are SORE. Time to drug myself up. See y’all later.
