Gas prices
Just for shits and giggles. I finally cleaned out the gas receipts from my wallet. I usually get the cheapest and regularest I can find:
01/06 – 2.919 per gallon
02/28 – 3.019
02/29 – 2.999
03/07 – 2.999
03/13 – 3.199
03/25 – 3.159
04/21 – 3.299
05/01 – 3.399
05/09 – 3.439
05/17 – 3.609
06/02 – 3.919
That’s just the debit records. A lot of time I pay cash, or Casey pays when I drive him around.

Mine is £1.24/l at the moment, which is about $9.00/g I think.
Around Christmas it was about 89p/l
It sucks.
I’m glad I work close to home and have an efficient car. Driving round the USA this week seeing the amount of single people in huge cars/SUVs, there’s no wonder supply is outstripping demand.

At this stage of the game, I think tons of people would use public transportation if we had it. There just is no way to get from point A to point B (in 101°F/24°C heat, mind you) without driving. The bus system is a joke and the “light rail” won’t be open for another few months and that only goes from the edge of Mesa through Tempe to downtown Phoenix. For now, we’re forced to drive everywhere. And the smaller, more gas efficient cars are only now starting to be available, at inflated prices and long waiting lists. The average schmoe is screwed.

How easy would it be to import from continental Europe to the states? [Probably not at all, I'm guessing... but we seem to be getting plenty of US SUVs arriving over here.]

Not without a crapload of money. The US Automakers have a powerful lobby, causing all kinds of jumps and hoops and trenches for other cars to go through just to get approved.
One of my friend’s constant rants is how his car costs thousands more here than in Japan plus the US required some sort of fuel thingy that actually causes it to be LESS fuel efficient. And if he got the kit online to change it back by himself – and got caught – he’d get incredible fines.

Ouch. That rather does suck.

the “fuel thingy” is the emissions equipment that makes it DEQ compliant.
DEQ is the biggest load of bullcrap, it does nothing good whatsoever, considering all it really does is decrease the fuel efficiency of the car it’s on, AND the vehicles that REALLY need it, the big frakkin’ semi trucks that’re hauling all our goods back and forth across the country, aren’t required to be DEQ compliant.

Well, at least Landies are really fuel efficient-, oh, wait.

They’re not too bad when converted to LPG – my sister/BIL did that with theirs.
Mind you, they’re some of the few people who actually need a vehicle like that, what with two dogs and four
soon to be five, but no-one’s meant to know that yethorses.about 3 years ago
It was 3.87 when I filled up on Saturday. $70 to fill up. I really, REALLY want a more fuel efficient car. *sniff* Or a scooter.

The DC area went above $4 this weekend. Crazy.
I can’t even imagine how expensive it is in Europe right now . . .

I saw your numbers and for the LIFE of me couldn’t figure out if that was good or bad, and at those prices WHY people would spend HOURS at the border just to go get gas at 3point whatever a gallong!
So … I just HAD to figure this out …
There is 3.78… liters in a gallon. We pay 1.38 a liter, which is about 5.21 a gallon.
Anyway you slice it (since my math is PROBABLY way off the mark! LOL) it is too damned MUCH!
They are saying on the news, our gas here in BC will probably hit $4 or $5 a liter by end of summer. HEAVEN HELP US!

err forgive the spelling in that! *blush* I know better!
litres not liters. *head desk*
