so don't ask if you don't want to know
Gimme a fucking break!
_allecto_ says in a comment after her own man-hating (specifically Joss Whedon) diatribe:
I believe in the radical feminist definition of rape. That is that men who pressure women into sex are rapists. That women who are pressured are not freely consenting and are therefore being raped. There have been a few discussions recently in the rad fem blogosphere debating whether all male initiated sex is rape, given that women are politically, socially and economically subordinate to men. So, in my understanding of Joss Whedon as a rapist is hinges on my definition of rape. I would argue that most ‘sex’ between men and women, in the contemporary ‘sex-positive’, pornographic, male-supremacist culture, is rape.
So, I think Joss Whedon is a rapist because it is impossible for me to believe that a man who produces a show like Firefly,a man who openly objectifies women in his interviews, a man who based the character of Xander Harris (a pro-porn, sex-obsessed teenage male in Buffy) it is imposible for me to believe that this man does not pressure his wife for sex. If he has pressured his wife for sex even if she eventually consentedhe is still a rapist. I know far too many women who have been, and are being, forced, coerced, manipulated, pressured into sex that they do not want with their male partners. I’d bet anything that Joss is one of these men. And if he is then he is a rapist in my books.
Jesus H. Christ. I don’t even know where to begin!
Feminazis like this give women a bad name. Does she not see that her hatred of men colors everything she does? I’m pretty sure if you look with a large enough microscope you could turn any man into a “rapist.” I love how often and wrongly that word gets thrown around. Rape is a brutal act and to compare every heterosexual sexual encounter to rape is so ridiculous as to be laughable. Any legitimacy she might have about the television show characters goes down the drain. I’m sure she was talked into unsatisfactory sex at some point in her life and screamed rape at some poor unfortunate after. And then forever claimed to be a lesbian so she’d never have to have a relationship with a man again. She’s all bullshit. She’s discounting the experiences of women who have actually been raped and belittling the pain they have to live with for the rest of their lives.
Seriously, there are women in the world who actually *gasp* enjoy sex with men. And there are even women who play at being reluctant so their men will be a little forceful! Hell, there are some women who prefer getting fucked up against a wall as hard as they can get it. I’m sure there are even a couple of women out there that ZOMG like it in the . . .
I don’t know why I bother. The bitch is probably one of those militant dykes that even slutty lesbians won’t touch. Stupid cow. It just bothers me when someone who has never been raped goes around using that word about such mundane things. It’s a slap in the face to women who’ve actually suffered.
Shame on you _allecto_.
BTW: Zoe calls Mal “sir” because their relationship started out as a military relationship and she respects his leadership role enough to carry that forward. She’s not being raped by her husband considering she could kick his ass and she initiates their encounters as often as he does. Inara choses every encounter she has which means she’s not being raped. She’s more of a lady than _allecto_ could ever be. And Kaylee likes sex, but her relationship with Jayne and Mal are more familial and the banter is affectionate rather than controlling. Doesn’t _allecto_ have siblings? Siblings talk that way to each other all the time!
(I’m not responding on her LJ because I think a person has a right to their own opinion on their own LJ. Just as I have the right to tear it apart on mine. I’m not getting into a pissing contest with a group of self-congratulating men-haters on their own turf.)

I agree with you 100%. I couldn’t believe the stupidity of her post, and yet, I also decided not to post a response. I have a feeling it wouldn’t do any good anyways.
So if I make my husband have sex with me and he “wasn’t in the mood” so much, but does it anyways, is that rape? I think this lady is seriously demented!

According to her definition, yes you’re a rapist. Dontcha feel horrible? I don’t know whether to cut you from my friend’s list or beg for pictures!
Oh man, I am just rotten!
Please don’t cut me from your friends list…how will I watch bugs humping on your icon? And you don’t have to beg for pictures…just download at http://www.Iamrapingmysweethusband.com…ok that is not a website (although, I’m afraid to look, so I’m just guessing.)
Nope, no pictures…just the ones in my mind!

I have no doubt whatsoever that someone who operates under this rather curious definition of rape also has an iron clad justification for why women pressuring men into sex is anything but.
I can’t really say what it is, but I bet you four pennies that it includes the words “Male Hierarchical Society.”

This has been buzzing all over my flist also. Her comment about “all male/female sex being rape” also really, really pushed my buttons. I find that so insulting as a woman, I can’t begin to tell you. I can’t enjoy sex because I’m a heterosexual woman? Talk about antifeminism!

I hate that expression she uses, sisterhood. She isn’t my sister. I have a sister, just one.
With respect to the above, she’s an idiot. Sometimes Dave is tired and I co-erce him anyway. Does that make ME a rapist?

Seriously!
You know, there’s a difference between talking somebody into doing something and forcing them. You can talk me into trying various foods, but you can’t force me. If I don’t like the spinach casserole, I don’t get to yell that you raped my taste buds!

lol. Spinach casserole

Wait, she thinks that the idea of heterosexual sex being intrinsically unconsenting is new? Even in her crazy, she fails.

I get the feeling this is some teenage girl who probably has *just* discovered feminism.
I’d love to introduce her to my Grandmother. You know, the one who went on protest marches in the Seventies, burned her bras, edited feminist newsletters and articles, the one who once told a proto-feminist in the 1990s “You’re not a feminist, dear, you’re just a misplaced slut”?
She’d have a field day with this twat.

Yeah. She seems to have completely missed the Second Wave and have decided every thought she has is new and interesting.
Which isn’t to say that the amount of misogyny being thrown around in the reactions to her isn’t enlightening in its own, sad way, too. I’m seeing repetitions of “she must be a fat, ugly bull-dyke” everywhere … Way to reflexively counter a woman’s opinion by attacking her weight and her sexual availability to men, y’all.
*sigh* Must remember. Internet exists for 1.) LOL 2.) porn 3.) LOL people are bitching about porn.

Yeah, most of it was laughable till the whole rape subject came along. What the fuck is wrong with her that she belittles rape like that? Oh and accusing Joss of probably beating his wife? WTF?
Holy muckers, I’m not reading that whole thing.
This bit bothered me…
“But there is one really big question that does not get answered. The women who ‘choose’ to be ‘Companions’ are shown as being intelligent, accomplished, educated, well-respected and presumably from good families. If a woman had all of these qualities and opportunities then why the fuck would she ‘choose’ to be a man’s fuck toy? Would being a fuck toy for hundreds of men give a woman like Inara personal fulfillment? Job satisfaction? A sense of purpose? Fulfill her dreams? Ambitions?”
Wouldn’t the definition of a liberated woman be that she can do whatsoever the fuckerdoodles she pleases? She, Inara, wouldn’t choose? No, dear, you wouldn’t choose that. Inara can choose whatever she wants because, zomg, she’s a powerful female character who gets to say “Ah doo wut ah wa-unt.”

Oh, stop with the Earth logic. It’s obviously not welcome there.
That’s a whole lotta tealdeer but from the excerpts here, sounds like someone has some kind of Freudian issues about peepees and woo-woos and is projecting them onto others. Whilst we’re introducing her to GB’s bra-burning grandmother, can we add my mother, who instead of spending the 1960s screaming about unfairness to women spent them being one of only three women in her class of 90 in one of the country’s top DDS programs? There are lots of ways to be a feminist, and ranting in your livejournal about the oppresion of fictional characters and whether their creator beats his wife is pretty low on the list.

I guess I’m not as restrained as the rest of you guys. I posted a response. And it was so long I found out LJ has a character limit for replies and had to edit it down by a third. Does anyone else thing that 4300 characters is a bit small for a reply limit?
Chances are it won’t get posted. Her LJ entry of Jan 2nd explains just how narrowly she edits comments:
Banned Comments
In the future all comments that are:
pro-porn
pro-prostitution
woman-blaming
racist
misogynist
lesbophobic
pro-capitalist
…or otherwise woman-hating
will not be tolerated on this journal and will be automatically deleted.
Way to be open minded! She’s simply a hater who only surrounds herself with other haters. I could disparage her all day but what’s the use?
Yeah, she responded to some other comment but said all other pro-prostitution comments would be automatically deleted. I looked for any new ones and there are none, so I’m assuming she’s deleting since I know a few people who would have responded. She wants a feminazi dictatorship, that’s all. They go by a similar name to those who fight for equality, but all they want is their way the same as previous persecutors. Fucked up world we live in.

I saw that post as well. I know the chances of my post being shown are miniscule at best as I pointed out in the thread on the Farpoint Forums on this topic. I’m actually wishing I’d managed to save a copy of the original as I could have expanded on it and put it in a reply post on my blog. Yes, I managed to go a full third over the character limit for a reply and I still hadn’t covered everything I wanted to and, of course, now I have managed to see even more in the original text alone that I would have liked to address.

Ok, I never heard of Josh Whedon before I started watching. In fact, until after I started watching Firefly. I only ever liked the origninal Buffy movie, and certainly didn’t know, don’t know, who wrote it or directed it.
There is only one episode of Firefly where a woman is forced to her knees.
This woman if nuts.

You know, we have three kids. For the first one, you know, we tried pretty hard for. When she was ovulating, it was time to… you know.
But when you’re having an argument you’re not really in the mood. At least, I’m not the kind of guy who can just go when he’s pissed. Every other mood? Yeah. But not angry.
So I got pressured into sex by her. Often.
And you know what? I didn’t feel violated one bit.
Did I really write all that? Sheesh.
