On the car, just a thought. Back in the UK, a fairly close friend of Simon Honeybear is actually a Land Rover dealer (well, Si's friend is the son of the dealer, but works for his dad). Tom Brackenbury (the friend) has helped Si with Land Rover issues several times in the past and may be able to give an unbiased view of the situation that you could use as ammo.

I don't think Si reads LJs so maybe you should do a short summary of the problems and work done to date and get a second opinion on what you're being told. I'm sure Si wouldn't mind...but if you're interested in doing this let me know and I'll warn him to expect an email from you.
