The Religious in the Hands of an Angry Atheist
Jan 30th
“Heath Ledger chose to promote the vile sin of sodomy in defiance of God’s law. No one made him play a faggot cowboy in “Brokeback Mountain”. No one made him kiss another man, in a flagrant attempt to further desensitize not only americans but Bible-illiterate fools the world over to the filthy depravity that is faggotry. He chose to do that all on his own. He could have used that bully pulpit he has to promote the cause of God and truth instead. God has repaid him to his face for his filth. Thank God for His Justice. All who flaunt God’s law can expect the same. Amen.” (Pastor Phelps, Westboro Baptist Church).
This is a perfect example of why I am an atheist. Religion is a plague. It infects our schools, our government, and is fighting a losing battle against the science community. This infestation causes me to write a sermon in a public school. Entire religions are based on one book of fiction. I don’t believe there is an entity that gives one iota, whether you blow up the WTC, or win the Super Bowl. I resent that people hand over their personal responsibilities on a silver platter to “God”.
You believers have brought more destruction on this Earth than natural disasters. Do you remember the Inquisition? Religion is like a white board, you can rewrite or erase anything you don’t like. What about the Jihad? You have consistently hunted, tormented, drowned, tortured, and/or sacrificed anyone who believed differently, like a plague for which there is no vaccine. You’re like bees, you suck up the nectar out of somebody’s life, then convert them into your honey. For example, you Roman Catholics spent years persecuting the Jews. And you Puritans found delightful ways to rid yourselves of people who you thought were witches.
If you can’t all follow one religion, (which we know will never happen) you need to, at the very least, be more accepting to those who do not feel or believe the same way as you. If “God” accepts people the way they are, why do you have to convert nonreligious people? Build on your strengths like community service, social gatherings, music and art, and leave the hate behind. There are positives in religions, but they do not outweigh the negatives. Take after the Amish, live your belief without hypocrisy and stop trying to convert everyone else.
All this hate can only result in world destruction. Who decides the best religion; who is the winner? If extraterrestrials came to visit us, would you still believe in “God”? If Jihads don’t kill us all, who is to say that some other person, entity, or religion won‘t bring the end to us all? What happens if someone like Pastor Phelps got his hands on a nuclear bomb? Don’t you think that would finally make us all the same… dead?
Ginnie Walker
She only asked for a little help
Jan 30th
Ginnie has this assignment today and she always asks to bounce stuff off me when she has to write. Today’s assignment is to write a sermon (*burn*) titled “______ in the hands of an angry ______” Her first idea was some lame thing about snowbirds in the hands of an angry teenage driver but she couldn’t get fired up enough. So she talked herself into:
Religion in the hands of an angry Atheist
Seriously, most of her bullet points so far are her own thoughts, I just filled in better words when she got stumped. She’d forgotten all about the Inquisition and we talked about the Westboro Baptist Church nut cases.
I’ll post the report when it’s done. I can’t tell you how proud I am.

Casey made out pretty well with his tax refund so he treated me (finally) to my second one. It’s on the outside of my right calf.

Still no news on the car and still driving the loaner.
Mother called and gave the low-down on her husband’s condition. I wasn’t really paying attention. Something about hospitals and he’s still alive. Oh well.
I planned on scheduling my hearing today, but I decided to wait until Casey actually moves out so I don’t have to worry about dragging Kira along. Supposedly he’s moving out this weekend. I have my fingers crossed. He’s paying most of his fines off so he can get his license. He’s also paid me a small chunk so I could put it away. I hate being broke broke so now I have a small nest egg if something goes bad again. Or for airplane tickets to D*C if things go well for a while.
Speaking of which, if I don’t end up having to pay anything on these new repairs – as I shouldn’t – I will be caught up on all my debts this Friday. So my March check will have quite a bit left over and maybe I can start planning a real life around that. I want to go to D*C in September and to the New Media Expo in August. I really need to sock some cash away for those. Maybe I’ll get a real job when I don’t have to babysit anymore.
Things are going to start happening to me now.

Phoenix Cactus Comicon was cool! Technically it’s still going on today but I don’t think I’ll go back. Maybe. I dunno. Too many obnoxious teenagers.
Friday night was all about the zombies! The Zombie Beauty pageant was cool.
Yesterday I met up with the Farpoint bunch and passed out flyers for Wingin It last night. TD-0013 (Kevin) walked past me twice complete with eye contact before suddenly he remembered he knew me on the third pass. His wife was there causing her own personal uproar too. I like that woman, I just have trouble remembering her name. The Admiral. Which is fine during “events” but if I run into her elsewhere I’d damn sure better call her by her real name, right? Also found Dan & CJ geeking their kids out with Jedi lessons. I watched a couple of independent movies then slipped over and watched parts of Star Trek: Of Gods and Men and listened to Walter Koenig and Tim Russ and a couple other guys do a Q&A.
An odd Wil Wheaton day. So I’m standing behind Michael as he’s chatting up Wil at his table. I lean around to Mike’s right and slip him a flyer to give to Wil for the recording last night. Wil barely glances at me at that point. Flash to later where I stood next to Mike in the back of the room during Wil’s (packed packed packed) presentation and reading from a couple of his books. Excellent time, I have to get these books, the guy is hilarious! Anyway, as he’s finishing I go sit down, knowing those of us in the FPM entourage will be the last ones out of the room. Wil is walking down the center aisle with everyone else, head down, not speaking to anyone or anything on his way out to the autograph table, right? And for some reason he slows down – looks me dead in the eye – and says, “thank you so much for attending” and continues on! Whah? I got chills. I’m speshul.
Other mentionables: The 400 lb guy in neck to toe black spandex. I don’t want to know which superhero he was trying to be. The Bandit car. Bought a Cthulhu t-shirt from Don at the Pulp Gamer booth. Eliza’s tea party bunch. How many young adults in various versions of anime costumes and how loud and annoying they were. Getting body slammed by that one boy and then Eliza’s husbean and (I think) Dan backing the poor kid into a corner. The horrible sad girls with no lives desperately singing in the karaoke room. Technical difficulties and then a short WI3D.
Maybe I will go back today. To get a Wil book and a VooDoo Baby for Ginnie. I just watched my neighbor walk out to her car wearing a Con badge. How did I not see here there before?
